Does God Exist? A Biblical and Practical Answer
Why This Question Matters
Does God exist?
That is a very important question—one that deserves an honest answer.
From my own life, I can say with confidence: Yes, He does.
Not because I was taught to believe it.
Not because it’s tradition.
But because I have experienced Him for myself.
There have been moments in my life that have no other explanation—moments that leave no room for doubt that God is real and present.
Even so, I haven’t always believed without question.
From my youth and at different times throughout my life, I have wrestled with doubt. I have wondered if God truly existed. But over time, the evidence—especially in my own life—became impossible to ignore.
In my twenties, I walked away from my relationship with God.
For thirteen years, I lived a life I wouldn’t wish on anyone.
During that season, I was living in Florida and felt a strong desire to go home and visit my family. One day, I borrowed my boyfriend’s car and started the long drive back.
I was exhausted.
Partway through the trip, I pulled into a rest stop and slept for a few hours. When I woke up, I thought I was fine—but I wasn’t. I was still dangerously tired.
As I drove on the interstate, I fell asleep at the wheel.
I don’t know how long it lasted.
All I know is that I was completely gone.
When I think about it now, it still frightens me. I could have died that day. And in the condition my heart was in, I believe my soul was lost.
In that moment—somewhere between sleep and eternity—I felt the weight of my life. Every wrong choice. Every person I had hurt. Every selfish decision. It all replayed in my mind, over and over.
Then suddenly…
I felt a hand touch my right shoulder.
It shook me.
Hard.
I was instantly wide awake.
When I opened my eyes, my car was headed straight toward the guardrail. Beyond it, there was nothing—no road, no trees, no ground. Just air.
If I had gone any farther, I would have flown over.
I would have died.
I reacted just in time and pulled away.
There was no one else in the car.
No passenger.
No voice.
No explanation.
Only one possibility.
God had woken me up.
He spared my life.
He gave me another chance.
Later, when I read this Scripture, it took on a whole new meaning for me:
“For He shall give His angels charge over you,
To keep you in all your ways.
In their hands they shall bear you up,
Lest you dash your foot against a stone.”
— Psalm 91:11–12
That day on the interstate, I truly believe God did exactly that.
He sent His protection.
He intervened when I couldn’t.
He kept me from falling into destruction — both physically and spiritually.
The Bible also says:
“The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.”
— Psalm 103:8
That day, I experienced that mercy firsthand.
What Scripture Teaches About God’s Existence
The Bible does not try to argue God into existence.
It simply declares Him.
From the very first verse, Scripture begins with confidence:
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
— Genesis 1:1
There is no apology.
No explanation.
No debate.
God presents Himself as the starting point of everything.
Before anything existed — He did.
The Bible also tells us that God makes Himself known through what He has created:
“The heavens declare the glory of God;
and the firmament shows His handiwork.”
— Psalm 19:1
When we look at the sky, the oceans, the seasons, and even our own bodies, we see order, design, and purpose.
Creation itself points back to a Creator.
Scripture goes even further and says that every person is given an inner awareness of God:
“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen… so that they are without excuse.”
— Romans 1:20
In other words, God has placed evidence of Himself all around us — and even within us.
That quiet sense that there is “more.”
That feeling that life has meaning.
That pull toward truth and eternity.
Those are not accidents.
They are reminders of God’s presence.
The Bible also teaches that God desires to be known personally:
“You will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”
— Jeremiah 29:13
God is not distant.
He does not play hide-and-seek with sincere hearts.
When we truly seek Him, He responds.
He reveals Himself through His Word.
Through prayer.
Through answered cries.
Through changed lives.
And often, through moments when we know — deep down — that only God could have stepped in.
That quiet sense that there is “more.”
That feeling that life has meaning.
That pull toward truth and eternity.
Those are not accidents.
They are reminders of God’s presence.
The Bible explains it this way:
“He has planted eternity in men’s hearts and minds… a divinely implanted sense of a purpose… which nothing under the sun but God alone can satisfy.”
— Ecclesiastes 3:11 (AMPC)
God placed within every human heart a longing for eternity.
A desire for something greater than money, success, pleasure, or achievement.
That longing points us back to Him.
It reminds us that we were created not just for this world, but for a relationship with God.

How God Reveals Himself in Our Lives
God does not only reveal Himself through Scripture and creation.
He also reveals Himself through our personal lives.
Through moments we cannot explain.
Through protection we did not deserve.
Through answers to prayers, we didn’t even know how to pray.
Often, we recognize His hand only when we look back.
In my own life, one of the clearest moments was the day I almost lost my life on the interstate.
I was exhausted.
Spiritually distant.
Living outside of God’s will.
Yet God still reached for me.
When I fell asleep at the wheel, He woke me.
When I was headed toward danger, He pulled me back.
When I had walked away from Him, He did not walk away from me.
That moment was more than survival.
It was mercy.
It was a reminder that God sees us even when we are lost.
The Bible says:
“The Lord shall preserve you from all evil;
He shall preserve your soul.”
— Psalm 121:7
That day, God preserved my life and my soul.
Since then, I have seen Him reveal Himself in many other ways — through guidance, conviction, comfort, and peace.
Sometimes He speaks through His Word.
Sometimes through prayer.
Sometimes through circumstances.
Sometimes, through quiet nudges in our spirit.
But always, His purpose is the same:
To draw us closer to Him.
God reveals Himself because He wants a relationship — not religion.
He wants our hearts — not just our habits.
And when we are willing to listen, He is faithful to respond.
